The Wealmoor Way: Our Responsible Business Plan
Wealmoor’s Approach and Commitments to Supporting the Delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals
The pressure on the Earth’s resources, the impact of climate change and the growing global population are increasing the need for change in how food, and the type of food is sourced, produced and consumed. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are recognised as the foundation on which to drive positive change and address the challenges faced.
At Wealmoor the journey for change has already begun. For many years we have worked in partnership with our global and local communities and put sustainability at the heart of what we do. We have always recognised the vital role agriculture can play as a catalyst for change across the world and have continued to use our knowledge and expertise to help improve the lives of workers and local communities.
"To be the UK's most successful ethical, collaborative and customer-focused fresh produce company."
To sustainably source, market and deliver quality fresh produce, whilst making a positive impact on communities and local environments.
Our approach to the way we source has, over the years, had a positive impact either directly or indirectly on the lives of others and the environment. Click on the map below to see some examples of the great work which has been done with some of our long term partners.
We are now looking to focus our efforts towards the goals on which we can have the biggest positive impact – we’ve selected 3 primary goals from the UN sustainable development goals below:
We recognise the importance to make a positive impact towards the Sustainable Development Goals and have chosen to focus our efforts primarily on Goals 5 , 8 and 12. These Goals best align with our business purpose and are areas which we have historically focused on and are passionate about improving.
UN Sustainable development goal 5
We focus on non-discrimination and equal opportunities.
We empower women within our supply chains.
For more information, view our Gender Pay Gap Report here.
UN Sustainable development goal 12
Responsible consumption and production
We invest in our supply chains and focus on activities to pro actively minimise waste and promote long term sustainability.
UN Sustainable development goal 8
Decent work and economic growth
We create livelihoods and support
sustainable economic growth for our growers and communities. We attract and retain employees by providing roles with purpose and ensure equal opportunities for development.
Profit for purpose
All of the goals are closely linked, and we appreciate that as part of the work we do, we have a positive impact on some of the other goals as well including:
We help to develop a resilient agricultural sector, provide nutritious products and support well being for all
We minimise the use of water and chemicals. We continue to increase the share of renewable energy used within our operations. We promote sustainable land use, and increase biodiversity
Profit for purpose
We engage actively with stakeholders both within and externally to our supply chains on the SDG’s
We also appreciate the need to further support the raising of awareness of the remaining goals and why these are important and we are committed to doing this with our supply chain partners
Our approach towards being a responsible business is something which we are genuinely committed to and extremely proud of. It has been, and will continue to be, at the heart of what we do at Wealmoor so we can continue to have a positive impact on both the planet and our people.
